Advanced Multicultural Mentorship Training 2

This is the second of two workshops designed to have participants apply knowledge from Tier I of the Culturally Aware Mentorship program through active learning approaches, including role playing and simulations. Participants will reflect on their own cultural backgrounds and biases and how these influence their mentorship. They will practice strategies to enhance empathic listening and to create an environment that promotes well-being. Participants will also be trained in techniques for broaching challenging topics and will develop a plan for implementing culturally responsive mentorship.

Prerequisite: Participation in at least 2 sessions of Culturally Aware Mentorship that was offered in Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Becoming more aware of one’s own culture and how this culture impacts mentoring relationships.
  2. Enhancing communication skills, including empathic listening.
  3. Increasing awareness of the importance of well-being and learning strategies to promote well-being.
  4. Enhancing skills related to broaching challenging topics with mentees.
  5. Developing a plan for implementing multicultural mentorship.

This program is facilitated by a team from the International Mentoring Association. It is sponsored by the CFDA and the Office for Access and Campus Engagement.
